2025 - Butterfly "Release" and "Rebirth"

The butterfly emerged out of an abstraction of the previous symbol of the bowling pin. In an attempt to expand upon the bowling pin symbol, I asked a question, what about bowling intersts me? my answer was two-fold: I am interested that one steps up to a line to "release" the ball; an act of letting go. Additonally, I was never interested in the crash of the bowling ball into the pins, but that the pins were always collected and put back upright; a metaphor for "rebirth". Being interested in nature, I asked myself: what themes of nature relate to the idea of "release" and "rebirth"? the butterfly fit the question, and its form entered the work. As the series carried on, the butterfly became abstracted into fields of line and color.
